Who we are
My name is OnTay. I’ve been coaching my son in running since we trained for our first 5k in 2023. Being a homeschooler, I wanted to create a club for him to stay connected socially amongst the other activities he was doing. We found some other homeschoolers and here we are.
I’ve ran 8 Marathons and 8 half marathons since I started seriously running in 2008/2009 I’ve always used running to grow in my discipline but mostly my mental health. I’ve seen how running has changed not only my life but others.
This running program is a way for me to give back to the young men of my community in ways I wish I would have received as a child.
Why Taharqa? Taharqa isn’t just an unusual name. He was a King/Pharoah of Nubia and Ancient Kemet (now Egypt). His name means “young warrior”. For young men of my community, it takes being a warrior to make it through all the muck and mire of systems and infrastructures challenging us. I started this run club to help institute a few qualities that go a long way towards helping our young warriors win.
